Honor Societies
Membership in the National Honor Society is a highly sought-after honor and requires commitment to the ideals of the National Honor Society. Students who have a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher and exemplify the four cornerstones of membership as outlined for Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character will be invited to submit an application for membership in the National Honor Society. Students applying for membership in the National Honor Society must be in good standing under both the offices of Learning & Achievement (academic & attendance) and Personal Growth (discipline & service hour requirement). Acceptance of membership will indicate a willingness to not only fulfill the National Honor Society application requirements but to participate in all activities as well, such as meetings and service projects associated with the National Honor Society, including the timely payment of dues. Failure to comply with these requirements could result in inactive status. A one-time fee of $50 must be submitted with the student’s National Honor Society application.
It is the philosophy of Clearwater Central Catholic High School that the school will recognize students in the National Honor Society who excel in individual subject areas by sponsoring them into the various other honor societies if they meet the criteria outlined for that society. Seniors who are in good standing will receive an honor cord to be worn at the Commencement Ceremony. Juniors and Seniors must attend the Night of Honors Ceremony to be inducted into an honor society and/or to receive a NHS stole and any honor cords (seniors only). Seniors who are determined to be in inactive status will not be eligible to receive an honor cord.
National Honor Society
National Honor Society serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Four main purposes have guided chapters of NHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter.
