Clearwater Central Catholic High School

"Where Possibility and Opportunity Meet"

Celebrating Over 50 years of Educational Excellence!

At the beginning of the 1960s, as enrollment of 9th and 10th grade students at St. Cecelia Catholic School in Clearwater grew, it became increasingly apparent that there was a need for a separate Catholic high school facility in northern Pinellas County. In 1961, Joseph Hurley, Archbishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine, selected Clearwater as the site for a new Catholic high school.

Clearwater Central Catholic High School (CCC) was founded in February 1962 with the groundbreaking of its first building. CCC opened its doors in September of 1962 with a seven-member staff and an enrollment of 96 students. In 1964, the first graduating class consisted of 26 students.

Since that time CCC has continued its dedication to traditional Catholic/Christian values coupled with academic excellence to develop into an outstanding college preparatory high school. CCC continues to maintain a low student-faculty ratio and small class sizes that allow for personal attention to the diverse ability levels of each student. Student SAT and ACT test scores consistently rank above the Florida and National averages. Annually, 100% matriculate to college and more than half of graduating Seniors receive academic and athletic scholarships totaling $3.5 million or more.

Fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, CCC has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National School of Excellence and the National Catholic Educational Association as an American Catholic School for the 21st Century. The only Catholic high school serving Clearwater and a broad geographic region encompassing northern Pinellas and Pasco counties, today Clearwater Central Catholic is one of three high schools serving on behalf of the Diocese of St. Petersburg.

Throughout CCC’s history, the faculty has always been key in creating an environment "permeated with the Gospel spirit of freedom and love." While challenging each student to excel academically, the faculty traditionally has assumed leadership roles as mentors, coaches and advisors. Today their experience ranges from two to 30 years in the field of education and 71% hold post-graduate degrees.

Over the years, CCC has experienced growth and today can accommodate up to 700 students. The 40-acre campus is fully equipped for Internet and computer use and contains nine permanent buildings including the new theater/arts complex, a state-of-the-art science education center, classrooms, tiered computer lab, media center, and a full-service cafeteria. Athletic facilities include an air-conditioned gymnasium, lighted stadium with track, practice fields, lighted baseball field, softball field, and 3-mile cross-country course.

Perhaps one of the hallmarks of CCC’s history is athletics. Today more than half of the student body participates in a variety of 2A sports. Since CCC’s founding, athletic teams have won 32 state championships and the Athletic Program has been recognized by the The St. Petersburg Times with the "All Sports Award" and by the Florida High School Activities Association for having the most successful Athletic Program in the state.
